All Weather Horse Racing

All Weather Horse Racing - Introduction

All Weather Horse Racing is Racing that takes place all year round, whatever the weather, 52 weeks a year on the three main All-Weather Tracks at Wolverhampton, Southwell and Lingfield. Due to the success of All-Weather Racing New courses are planned for Kempton and Sedgefield

All Weather Horse Racing - The Racing Surface

The surface is either Fibresand or at Lingfield Racing takes place on the Equitrack. Usually the courses can withstand frost and snow and also excessive amounts of rain. They can often be heated from below ensuring the vageries of winter do not affect racing. All the All Weather Tracks have football style floodlighting which means Race Meetings can take place in the dark, which is an important factor in the winter, when it can be dark as early as 15.30!!

All Weather Horse Racing - Form On The All Weather

Normal form considerations apply however it is important to be cautions when comparing form between either Wolverhampton or Southwell and Lingfield. Often the form just doesnt hold up when you go to Lingfield. In general I would say that Lingfield has to be treated as something of a specialist course which course specialists often have the advantage

All Weather Horse Racing - Big Prices Winners

The unpredictability of All Weather Courses and the quite severe "kick back" that can be generated from the sand etc can mean that bigger priced winners can be more successful. There is a much lower strike rate for favourites on the than elsewhere, especially as compared with over Jumps, so it pays to be very careful before backing favourites, especially short priced favourites. It can sometimes pay to look for bigger priced horses or outsiders which dont either shorten or lengthen in price before the off i.e. they just stick there on the odds, as if no one is bothering with them. The logic here is that if no one is backing the horse but the bookies wont lengthen the price to attract more bets, then thats indicates that they realize the horse has a chance, and they dont want to encourage interest

All Weather Horse Racing - Specialist Jockeys

There are some jockeys on the All Weather who seem to be pretty good. Obviously when you see a name like Frank Dettori suddenly appear then theres a good chance he's only come out for the day for winners - he rarely goes away empty handed. Look out too for N Callan, C Catlin and S Mongan on All Weather Courses
