Flat Horse Racing - Introduction
Flat Horse Racing simply means Horse Racing when there are no obstacles - such as fences or hurdles - such as there are in National Hunt Racing. Flat Racing takes place on 'the turf' i.e. on normal simple grass!! All Weather Flat Racing, which is staged at Lingfield, Southwell and Wolverhampton is really a special case of Flat Racing, and from a form point of view its a good idea to look at Turf Flat Racing as Different from the All Weather
Flat Horse Racing - The Season
Flat Horse Racing takes place generally from mid April through to late October. All Weather Flat Racing, as the name suggests carries on right throughout the year
Flat Horse Racing - The Courses
There are a large number of courses that stage Flat Racing. Some only stage Flat Racing and some also stage Jumping Meetings. Uniquely, Lingfield, stages all three types of racing as it offers Flat Racing both on the Turf and on the All Weather but also stages Jumping Meetings
Flat Horse Racing - Course Specialists
Some courses are regarded as producing 'Course Specialists' - i.e. horses that perform well at certain courses only despite their previous form. These horses are always worth looking out for as the bookies will have put them at a bigger price than their 'true' form warrants!!
