Horse Racing Cards

Horse Racing Cards - Introduction

Horse Racing Cards are a listing of important information about all the horses that are taking place in a race. This information is compiled from the various race entries that are made via the declaration system run by the British Horse Racing Board (BHRB) or other racing authority depending on the country concerned

In brief, all horses have to be entered for the race, some time in the past - depending on the conditions for the race. As the race day approaches trainers then have to decide if the horse will run or not. This will depend on many factors, such as whether the horse is fit, whether an appropriate jockey has been secured for the race, whether there are more appropriate races for the horse to participate in, whether the owners wish to horse to participate, what kind of going is likely to be evidenced on the day etc. If it is decided that a horse will run, then the horse is "declared" for the race - this means the horse will take part unless declared as a non runner on race day. It is sometimes possible to enter a horse "late" for a race, but this entails paying an extra fee, and is quite common in some of the big races in the horse racing calender
